Cynthia Nixon: Only if celebrities keep their health problems a secret?

Cynthia Nixon: Only if celebrities keep their health problems a secret?

Cynthia Nixon, who played smart and savvy and lovingly career-centered and slightly-neurotic Miranda on Sex and the City (did you know? it’s a movie too!…ok, not exactly breaking news), is speaking out for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization and speaking up about her own journey through cancer.

Nixon is sharing some details about lumpectomy and radiation treatment for breast cancer she underwent two years ago. As the daughter of another breast cancer survivor, Nixon said she was aware of her increased risk and felt more empowered when she was diagnosed early.

As an ambassador for the breast cancer charity, Nixon will divulge more about her own experience in the name of education and awareness. She says she kept quiet while she was in treatment, however, because she “didn’t want paparazzi at the hospital.”

Now that the first redhead gal pal to steal our hearts and prime time hours (sorry, Marcia) has made her own breast cancer battle public, it makes me wonder how much impact celebrities have on health campaigns.

What do you think? Should celebs keep their health issues private or public? And does it serve us when they finally speak out?

I definetly think that when celebs speak out about their diseases, people become more aware of them. and i guess that helps everybody.
